Elvirasminde got its name in 1875 from a previous owner whose wife was named Elvira.

The company was founded in central Aarhus in 1866, and for many years, it produced a variety of sweets and biscuits, as well as fizzy drinks, medicinal waters, and dried fruits. Over time, Elvirasminde grew larger and larger. To keep up, the company expanded its facilities and brought in more employees.

In 1925, Elvirasminde had about 500 employees and produced 12 tonnes of chocolates and other sweets every day, including foam kisses.

In 1954, Elvirasminde, now a publicly traded company, decided to focus primarily on producing foam kisses. Subsequently, the company was modernised in 1960, enabling it to produce about 200,000 foam kisses per day—requiring egg whites from 8000 to 10,000 hens every day!

In 1967, the company closed its facility in Aarhus and moved to a newer, more modern location in Hasselager. This factory burned down in 1985; after the fire, Elvirasminde set up shop in Skanderborg, where the company remains today.

Foam kiss production continued, and in 1988, the familiar Samba trademark was introduced. In 1993, Elvirasminde merged with Guf, another producer of foam kisses.

In 1996, Elvirasminde acquired the Nam Nam brand of foam kisses from Sweden, and in 2017, it took over the foam kiss production operations of Rico’s Foam Kisses in Give.
